Villa Park Little League players participate in several tournaments both mid-season and post-season. Tournament formats vary and can include all VPLL teams, tournament champions, all-stars or non all-star (anybody can participate) teams.
Villa Park is part of
Little League California District 30 which organizes the local tournaments and includes other local leagues such as Tustin Western LL, Tustin Eastern LL, Anaheim Hill LL, North Sunrise LL, South Sunrise LL, Santiago LL and Northeast Santa ANA LL.
Here are some of the tournaments Villa Park LL participates in each year:
District 30 Orange City Tournament.
The Orange City tournament is a mid-season tournament where all Little League teams in District 30 at the AA, AAA and Majors levels participate. One loss eliminates a team from tournament contention. From start to finish the tournament is played in less than a week.
During the tournament check the
District 30 Website for schedules and results.
District 30 Machine Pitch Tournament
This end of season tournament is open to all players ages 6 - 12 that wish to participate. This is a fun end of season tournament where kids hit off a Blue Flame Machine or for the Crystal division, a wheel machine. VPLL will organize all the players onto teams across the four age group divisions. This tournament starts immediately after the season and concludes in about a week. This tournament is a great opportunity for kids to get some extra game action and to play with kids they competed against all season.
Divisions
- Crystal (LL ages 11-12)
- Platinum (LL ages 9-10)
- Gold (LL ages 7-8)
- Bronze (LL ages 6-7) - Non-competitive, no scores
During the tournament check the
District 30 Website for schedules and results.
District 30 Tournament of Champions (TOC)
The single elimination TOC is a tournament for all District 30 League Champions. There is a Majors tournament and a AAA tournament, all leagues will send their first and second place Major and AAA teams to their respective tournaments.
District 30 All-Star Tournaments
As the season comes to a conclusion, VPLL selects All-Star teams from the best players in the AA, AAA and Majors divisions. These players come together and form teams that can play in a district tournament. There are up to four all-star teams formed, an 8/9, 9/10, 10/11 and a 10/11/12 all-star teams. VPLL's local rules list the criteria used for All-Star selection.
If an all-star team wins the District 30 tournament, that team can then advance to the Section 5 tournament (winners of other districts) and the Southern California Little League Tournament (winners of other SoCal sections). The tournament culminates with a state championship tournament.
The 10/11/12 all-star team follows the same format except that this team can advance all the way to the Little League World Series. This team would continue at the West Region tournament, which is held in San Bernardino, California, each August. The West Region tournament champion then advances to the Little League World Series.
During the tournament check the District 30 Website for schedules and results or the SoCal Little League Tournament site for later tournaments.
Southern California's districts are grouped into ten sections, and the winners of these sections compete for the Southland's divisional championship. The five North section winners compete for one championship series berth, and the five South section winners compete for the other. The North and South champions then meet in a best 2-of-3 championship series. Southern California state boundaries range from the Santa Barbara area south to the U.S. border and from the Pacific Ocean to the Arizona/Nevada borders.
